ROAD TRIP FROM UTAH TO VIRGINIA - DAY 4

We attended church, but only half of it.. because usually it is supposed to start at 11, but it started at 10 because they had stake conference. When we got inside the building we heard an apostles voice and realized that their stake conference was being broadcast from salt lake.  Elder Hales and Pres. Uchtdorf spoke.

We then visited the Columbus, Ohio Temple.  It is right next to a stake center and is about the same size! The temple and grounds were so pretty! I loved the manicured gardens and how green it already was.

We met a nice guy that had been doing work at the stake center and he took a picture for us.  Crazy enough he lived in Virginia and was able to give us some advice about visiting Washington, D.C.

Cavin and I felt extremely blessed Sunday morning because we drove over a hundred miles without the gas gauge changing at all. At first we thought something was just wrong with the car, but then we realized we weren't fighting wind like the other days or going up and down hills.  So we went over 300 miles on only half a tank of gas!  We only had to fill up once on Sunday which was a huge blessing, since we didn't want to have to at all.

Pine tree farm!

I love that this mountain.  It shows all the different layers of soil and how they are different colors.  So naturally beautiful!

ROAD TRIP FROM UTAH TO VIRGINIA - DAY 3

Today we started in Iowa.  We stayed with one of Cavin's mission companions family.  They were so great! His Mom made sure to tell us the weather forecast for all the states we could travel through.  We went through half of Iowa, all of Illinois, Indiana and part of Ohio.

I saw this building as we were switching from one interstate to another and had to take a picture.  Last semester while working on the visiting designer project I selected a few pieces of art to use in the residence by Josef Albers that look so similar to this, just different colors!

Below is the art piece that I used in my project.

Apparently Ohio has "So much to Discover!"  We discovered that its pretty smelly..... like manure, even though no animals were in sight... gross.  It lasted for a very long 30 minutes at least.

ROAD TRIP FROM UTAH TO VIRGINIA - DAY 2

Cavin and I drove 12 hours total in one day. I don't recommend it....

We stopped to fill out gas in Nebraska I think it was and I was amused that they admitted that we were nowhere.

This was the most exciting thing we saw while driving in Nebraska.  A huge random bridge!  Also, they had lots of little ponds we could see from the road that were such an amazing deep blue color, but everything around was so drab still.  It almost looked like someone photo shopped it.

ROAD TRIP FROM UTAH TO VIRGINIA DAY 1

Today started out quite busy.  Cavin and I took our last final at 9:30. Packed, found a check he hadn't cashed from last summer, renewed Cavin's drivers license, got the car inspected and the title switched, ate dinner with Mom and Dad before dropping Cavin's car at his Dad's house and finally hitting the road.

As we drove through Wyoming we saw lots of red blinking lights.  Soon we discovered that each red light was attached to a windmill.  I thought it was so pretty!  Only a day later we encountered windmills like these while driving in Iowa, but there were many more.

After stopping in Little America, Wyoming we decided that we would continue a little bit longer on to Rock Springs, Wyoming.  This is just a glimpse of the hotel.  It was my favorite one we stayed in.  They were all out of rooms with just one bed and we didn't understand that when we checked in.  So Cavin, after seeing our room returned to the front desk and told the receptionist that "we are married, so we only need one bed!"  haha.  Luckily she gave us a deal since they couldn't provide a smaller, cheaper room.
