Egyptian chair with cained seat
Today I visited the British museum and the Soane Museum. At the British museum my favorite thing that I saw was the pieces of the Parthenon. The scale of the pieces was amazing. I also visited the Egyptian section where I saw mummified bodies and artifacts from that time. The Egyptian chair was my favorite thing from that section. I love what remains of the caned seat. Random fact: caning originated in India. This methods used by the Egyptians is remarkable to me.
After the British Museum we went to the Soane Museum. It is this house with every inch filled with another amazing secret, painting, or artifact. Mr. Soane was an architect who collected many things. One of his greatest collections in the house is his Hogarth paintings. When you walk into the painting room you see four walls covered with paintings. There are four large Hogarth paintings that hang there. Too much surprise three of the four walls open!! The man in the room opened the walls for us. They open in the middle and there are two layers on the larger walls and one extra layer on the smaller wall. This was defiantly my favorite room in the house. Another room in the house contained miniature models of the greats in England, made out of cardboard. They are all in the scale of one inch to sixty feet. Some of the models consisted of St. Paul's Cathedral, Salisbury Cathedral and many more. In the basement of the house there is a tomb for his dog. This tomb was the inspiration for the red telephone booth! This was an amazing space where you can't take in all that surrounds you, it's wonderful!
For the rest of the afternoon the girlies and I went shopping in Notting Hill on Portobello road. It was a shopping experience like I had never had before and it was wonderful. I feel like it was a great way to really be surrounded by the style in England.
For dinner we went to GBK = gourmet burger kitchen in South Kensington. Wow! Can I just say wow. I had a bacon avocado burger. The bacon was the most amazing bacon I have ever eaten in my life by far. I think they cooked it on a grill..... I had the largest burger and am proud to say I at the whole thing. On our way to the tube we stopped at Ben's Cookies. This brought back great memories! I remember eating these at home and my father commenting that they had them in England. I was shocked to actually see them here.
