St. Mary's Abby
Castle? No, Tower.
the wall surrounding the city
York
outside castle museum
Today was a free day so Leslie, Rachel, and I decided to visit York. I instantly fell in love with this place. We started walking through the city and we found a beautiful park that smelled like brownies! In the park are ruins of St. Mary's Abby, which is done in the Gothic style. We tried to find the castle and that ended up being a letdown. The so called castle is really just a tower. It was still cool to see. Another feature that I liked about York is that there is a wall surrounding the city. It was built around the same time as the castle. There were a few streets in York that everyone just walked down. It was a nice change of pace. I relaxed so much while I was there it almost seemed too good to be true. After enjoying a pastry we located the art gallery. Finally, we found something that didn't cost money. Although small, this art gallery was filled with some gems. I discovered an artist/sculpture by the name of Austin Wright. His work is mostly abstract sculpture and drawings. He uses a repetitive shape in most of his work which is taken from the shape of an apple or other natural shapes. Because we couldn't take pictures in the museum I decided to sketch one of his sculptures. York was a very pleasant place to visit. In some ways it felt more like home because I saw more families and felt of a more community sense there.
